Kevin Garnett Would Probably Do Better in WWE

Well ... he did mention he was willing to sacrifice a ton of his earnings for the players union and sit out the entire season. But I'd rather see The Big Ticket in action elsewhere, say in a tag team match with a Celtic champ and fan favorite ... or one-on-one with The Great Khali.

After all, quoting a post on their page: "The NBA and NFL are both in or facing season-ending lockouts. WWE = 52 weeks a year ... NO LOCKOUTS!"

Makes logical sense for a primal beast in the green jungle like 'ol KG to take his talents there ... and even probably be a champion for a couple of months.

Brian Scalabrine headed to Europe

Fan favorite and Celtics iconic member of the ubuntu years is likely taking his talents to Europe:
"For me personally, if in the next 15 days it's still kind of like it is now, I'm just going to Europe and play," Scalabrine said in a phone interview. "The thing about that is you have to commit for the whole year and you have no out clauses whatsoever. I support the players and the union and want to see the (NBA) game stay great. But at the end of the day, with two years or so left of playing basketball, I'm not interested in watching billionaires fight. I just like the game too much. I like the camaraderie. I like to play. So why not do it in a great city in Europe and educate my family?"

Fair enough, Scal. I think it will be nice for you in Europe and that you will enjoy ending your career here.

I guess he makes his point when he indicates he doesn't want to watch billionaires fight, but it is also true that he wasn't exactly underpaid while he was in the NBA either. Just saying.

In any case, good luck Scal.  We missed you last season. To me, ubuntu wasn't the same without you in a Celtics uniform.

By the way, if Scalabrine comes to play in Poland I will certainly try and get an exclusive interview for CelticsLife ;)

Celtics part-owner willing to miss season

According to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, Celtics part owner Wyc Grousbeck is one of many owners not only prepared but also willing to miss a season to get the deal they want.

These fights are always about one thing: pain tolerance.

The owners believe they have more tolerance than the players, believe that pain comes with missed checks in November and December and perhaps, finally, a complete cave with time to rush a shortened 50-game regular season and playoffs. Back in the labor talks of 2005, Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck would say over and over in the negotiating sessions: The lockout is an investment.

Grousbeck smartened up, kept that thought to himself, but rest assured the mindset hasn’t changed. He’s one of the owners believed to be willing to lose the next season, along with Phoenix’s Robert Sarver.
The list goes on and on. The NBA goes away for the summer now, and nothing will get serious again until September when Stern will have to start cancelling games in the 2011-12 season.

Woj categorizes the Celtics, Suns and Cavaliers as "hardliners" for a hard salary cap, with teams like LA and Miami being a little looser (Gee, I wonder why?).

Anyway, no big surprise here. We've watched pretty much the same thing unfold in the NFL over the past several months. Only difference is the NBA actually has real problems, teams are losing money. The NFL just cant agree on how to split the billions of dollars they're making.

Green Target: Nene

Denver Nuggets center Nene Hilario has chosen to opt out of the final year of his six-year, $60 million contract, making himself an unrestricted free agent and the newest Green Target. The 28 year old big man out of Brazil has played very well for the Nuggets over his first nine seasons in the NBA, and has become known for his ability to rebound, defend, and establish control within the paint. With that being said, he has also demonstrated improved awareness on offense, and has become a legitimate scoring threat in Denver's front court over the past few years. This past season, Nene averaged 14.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, as well as a block, a steal, and a sky high field-goal percentage of 61.5%.

How the Celtics could get him: Nene has really padded his resume with such productive career numbers in Denver, but he has decided that he wants to test free agency, and potentially become part of an organization with more playoff success than the Nuggets have had. Nene immediately becomes one of the biggest names on the market right now, and likely the most valuable big man outside of Tyson Chandler, who will likely be rejoining the reigning NBA champs in Dallas. Many teams will likely pursue Nene, but with glaring issues at the center position, and uncertainty about Big Baby's future, I could definitely see Boston making a legitimate offer to bring him in as the new starting center.
