Love ya T.A, but if your ankle isn't right you're not that useful. We need you to be able to stick Kobe. It sucks that you got injured again, especially at this time, but those are the breaks I guess. Love ya Nate, but you're not big enough to guard Kobe. You should be able to spell Rondo as the backup point guard, but you can't be a backup wing. Love ya Finley, but unfortunately you're just too old and slow to stick with quicker guards.  If Tony is hurt we only have one option on the bench to cover Kobe Bryant and his name is Marquis Daniels.

Marquis was the consolation prize last Summer when we fell short of signing Grant Hill (even though Gary Tanguay told us it was a done deal). Marquis started the season off strong, earning the nickname "Nasty" on CelticsLife. He was the type of player that just helped your team. Non explosive, but he had a Pierce like smoothness to his game. Then he got injured (as he often has before) and hasn't really been heard from since (with the exception of his neck piece and his role in Avatar).

After T.A. got injured in the Orlando series and continued to be ineffective Doc hinted that it might be time for a change. Time to dust off #7. Well Marquis got into a game and promptly got a concussion and hasn't been seen from since. Where as Big Baby played the following game after his concussion, Marquis remains inactive. If the doctors are refusing to grant Marquis clearance then that's one thing, but if he is physically able to give it a go, it's time to step up Marquis. Doc chose Tony over you at the end of the season, because you weren't playing with energy and heart.

You have a second chance now. You played in the Finals before (back in Dallas). We know you can stick the self dubbed "Black Mamba." We can't have Pierce and Ray wasting all their energy and fouls on Kobe. Tony's ankle isn't right. It's time for you to go into Doc's office and say, "Put me in coach. I'm ready to play. I want to play. Let me at Kobe."

  1. Go Celtics. I have high hopes on you! :)

  2. Bohemian says:

Agreed completely JR. We need Marquis now.

  3. KWAPT says:

You're gonna call him a "consolation prize" and then expect him to like this article?

  4. JR says:

First off, aint nothing wrong with consolation prizes. Al Jefferson was Danny's consolation prize after his guy Robert Swift was taken. Grant Hill would have been the better pick-up, but he chose Phx.

Secondly, if my main goal was for Marquis to "like" the article, I probably wouldn't have included a pic of him on a milk carton and instead made a pic titled "Marquis Daniels is Great."

Not sure if you were being sarcastic or not.

Come on Marquis. We need you!!!!!

  6. ThomasJ says:

When he's not playing D, he can also hit from 15 feet when left alone (unlike TA) creating a little more spacing

  7. Jefferie Dunn says:

Shit we have one bad game and everyone is ready to fall apart. Shit game 2 is going to be a whole nother ball game we don't need daniels we just need to step it up. I still believe we got the finals. And when all is said and done and we don't win. I'm still a Celtic fan. This franchise has more heart and pride than any other and we give up were just as lame as flaker fans cause when Kobe retires they'll all be lebron fans.

  8. JR says:

Agreed ThomasJ. The other guy I wanted (after the deadline passed) was Raja Bell. Unfor the Warriors didn't waive him in time, but I thought he would have been a much better option over Finley.

  9. Bohemian says:

It seems Marquis will be available today:

So this gives us a guy that can play D and with some fresh legs. If he gets a little of his confidence back he can help us. Listen, he is not Grant Hill, James Posey or Raja Bell but he is much better than what he's been able to show in the last months. At the beginning of the year nobody spoke about Hill anymore and there was a point in which even the players wanted to get him some minutes with the starters because of his smart game. So let's give Marquis some minutes and another chance to redeem himself. See what happened with Nate, see what happened with Sheed...our bench is better than LA's for sure and we'll need these guys to rest the starters

Would've loved Raja Bell- but Marquis is a good player, hopefully he can make an impact

  11. Bohemian says:

    We found Daniels:

"Marquis dressed and ready to play. No limitations. Went full practice Saturday and ran into some Perk picks for test."

  12. JR says:

I guess the milk carton thing really works. ;)

  13. Three Toe says:

Shit you start one sentence with shit, you gotta start em all with shit. Nobody is freaking out, Jeff, the article is just pointing out that the Celtics would benefit from having the option of playing Marquis.

Anyways, It's not really fair to call someone out when concussion-related issues can last a day or months depending on the severity of the concussion. Also, a slight knock on one part of the head can generate a worse concussion than a forceful blow to another part. It seems as though Daniels is doing better, but just be thankful he didn't get a Savard-esque one.
