Jayson Tatum agrees to 5 year super max extension with Celtics for $314 million

Last summer Jaylen Brown signed the richest contract in NBA history. That record would stand for a season, but this summer it's Jayson Tatum's turn as he has agreed to a super max 5 extension with the Boston Celtics for $314 million. That number now makes Tatum's contract the richest in NBA history.

Tatum will have a player option on year 5. Here is the year by year breakdown of the extension:

  • 2025-26: $54,126,450
  • 2026-27: $58,456,566
  • 2027-28: $62,786,682
  • 2028-29: $67,116,798
  • 2029-30: $71,446,914

Earlier today the Celtics agreed to a 4 year extension with starting guard Derrick White, so the total bill for today is a whopping $440 million. Wyc Grousbeck won't be paying most of that bill as also today it was announced that he has put the Boston Celtics franchise up for sale.

Over the past year Brad Stevens and the Celtics have signed their starting 5 to contract extensions totaling just shy of a billion dollars. $939 million to be more precise.
