Afternoon Delight: Tom Brady reportedly frontrunner to purchase Boston Celtics; Famous locals also in the mix

Breaking news hit the interwebs today when the Boston Celtics released a statement that Wyc Grousbeck and his ownership group are going to be selling the team. The initial component of the sale is expected to take place this year. Celtics Life's Pulitzer Prize winning investigative journalist Rondo Burgundy has outdone himself this time as he's scooped everyone and is reporting that there is a frontrunner to purchase the Celtics, and it's a familar face.

Rondo Burgundy has been informed that Tom Brady is the frontrunner to purchase the team. Apparently FOX Sports screwed up when they inked Brady to his 10 year, $375 million contract and Brady can use an out clause to receive the full amount if he terminates the deal to either purchase one of the four major Boston sports teams or a Dunkin' franchise. Someone at FOX Sports will be getting fired over this, but the good news is that with that additional $375 million on top of his NFL earnings and endorsement deals, Brady is in line to become the Celtics new majority owner.

According to Rondo Burgundy, due to the steep price that the Celtics will sell for as the winningest team in NBA history and reigning champs, Brady will need to add several minority owners to his group. Actors Ben Affleck and Matt Damon were the first to contact Brady to join his ownership group, but the Good Will Hunting duo have some local competition.

Wahlberg brothers Mark and Donnie are also looking to get a piece of the green team. Would Brady consider adding all four to the mix? That is unclear at this point. Further complicating matters for the Wahlbergs is their desire to have Wahlburgers become the permanent sponsor on the team's game jerseys.

In one of his first moves as Boston Celtics governing owner Brady is expected to name Bill Bellichick the team's head of public relations.
