Sacramento Kings coach Paul Westphaul released a statement earlier today that 2nd year player DeMarcus Cousins has requested to be traded.

Via NBA.com:
“DeMarcus Cousins has demanded to be traded. In the best interest of our team as we go forward, he has been directed by me, with the support of management, to stay home from the New Orleans game tonight.”
While Cousins' agent disputed the trade request rumors, either way, it seems like the Kings want to be rid of DeMarcus if they went as far as to issue a statement suggesting a trade. Yes, DeMarcus is a giant headcase and it seems as though this year the Celtics have been clearing the team of any knucleheads.  But on the other hand, is he a young player with a ton of potential who averages 14.1 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.

With our shortage of bigs, would you want a player like Cousins on the team? Or is it too risky to allow someone with his history of instabilities to potentially be cancerous to the team? Vote in the poll below.

"8.8 blocks per game" lol thats alotta blocks, we need a guy like that

  2. DH says:

Oops I meant rebounds, thanks for catching that!

  3. JR says:

What could we offer them? They won't just give the big knucklehead away. They'd ask for Rondo, which is a non starter.

  4. Anonymous says:

doesn't fit the ubuntu theme with his terrible ass attitude

  5. Anonymous says:

if this kid can work with westphaul who id a great coach, i think he will bring trouble with him to boston.

  6. He can't work with Westphal, with a team full of youngsters, that sucks.

Doc is a better coach, this team has leadership, and wins.

  7. Anonymous says:

Fuck no, KG would kill him if he ever acted up, We don't need KG in prison. No for cousins. He needs rehab or something.
Get your attitude straighten out or STFU

  8. Anonymous says:

Avoid like the plague. The guy is a total asshole.

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7ohh8lq

What if we threw the Clippers pick in with that, and maybe a future protected pick? They aren't going to get any great offers given his reputation and them bannishing him

  10. YGR says:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAlP0B2Eeuc&feature=player_embedded the guy's a bitch. so no.

  11. Balls in your mouth says:

This awfuly reminds me of the whole beasly situation a couple years ago...the kid can play and still has alot more potential be stupid not to go after him...also when someone demands a trade there value is as low as it can get

  12. Anonymous says:

    Pavlovic+Bradley+Daniels for Cousins

  13. Dave says:

The Kings have Tyreke Evans, Jimmer Fredette, and Isaiah Thomas at point guard. Why would they ask for Rondo? They wouldn't.

Cousins demand of a trade hurts the Kings' ability to negotiate because they won't want to keep Cousins around to kill team chemistry. They're in the middle of a youth movement so 1 or maybe 2 picks, and possibly a throw in player would most likely do the job.

If there's a team that he could mesh well with and mature, it's the Celtics. Cousins is still young, and has a better upside than a guy I think we all miss in Perkins. But what's also comparable is how Perkins also came into the league at a very young age, but grew as a player/person with the guidance of the vets.

This move would be awesome for the C's, and to think that O'Neal starting at Center the ENTIRE season (which he will not last)is better, you're crazy. It would come down to 1)The validity of the request report & 2)MONEY. PLUS, Cousins would be a great piece to build around with Rondo for the future, which is another thing we lost with the trade of Perkins.

  14. Anonymous says:

He has a bad attitude. I wouldn't want him on the celtics.Even though the celtics still need to improve in some spots, I like our team the way it is.

  15. JR says:

Kings aren't going to do any favors giving him away. They're better of suspending him. At a minimum we'd have to trade our 2 first rounders this year and JJJ (I'd do that trade even though Cousins is an asshole). But I'd guess the Kings would get offered a legitimate player, so that wouldn't get it done. If Green was healthy he might have been able to be included.

  16. JR says:

Anonymous, you offer Pavlovic, Daniels, and Bradley for Cousins and the Kings would never take another Danny Ainge call. They're not going to trade their young starting center for 3 guys who they might simply cut.

  17. JR says:

“Everything that happens on a team does not become known to the public. This is how it should be. However, when a player continually, aggressively, lets it be known that he is unwilling/unable to embrace traveling in the same direction as his team, it cannot be ignored indefinitely." -Westphal.

So if we traded for Cousins and KG literally murdered him after Cousins bitched out Rondo for passing to Pierce instead of him, would your opinion of KG as a Celtic lesson with him behind bars?

  18. Balls in your mouth says:

J.O is an expiring contract which would help them with next year free agents

  19. bill says:

We could handle marbury. We could handle this kid. Rebounds equal rings. We have no other options.

  20. Anonymous says:

think about what we would have to give up. at least some1 that matters aka rondo, ray, pierce,KG they arent just gonna take JO and the rookies or JO and AB if they would idk mayb I'd consider it but I dont wanna be held hostage by some headcase. This kid has legit problems adhd add bipolar anger who knows he goes from one spectrum to the next a million times in a game. I would say KG could handle him but no. This dude would smash KG n pretty much any1 so he's crazy n he aint really gotta answer 2 no1. recipe for disaster but if the price is right (VERY CHEAP) I'd mull it over. That said they are gonna get a big at the deadline one way or another with a lot less risk than this headcase

  21. Anonymous says:

then again this kid is nuts and JO is a douche n won't want 2 be traded to any1 but a contender. I'd avoid him PERIOD. This guy is Beasley on steroids. He couldnt handle Boston he's prob go into the crowd after a fan Metta World Peace style

  22. Dave says:

It comes down to what would give the Celtics the best chance to win NOW (which we all know is the goal).

Cousins at starting Center with O'Neal backing up, or rolling the dice on O'Neal lasting an entire season, splitting time with Stiemsma?

How many players on the Kings are on the level of the Celtics' Big 4? Zero. You can assume Cousins would "bitch out" Rondo, but in reality he would be in a completely different (winning) situation in Boston, and I imagine he would find his place, in a new place, which is what he wants.

If for some reason Cousins didn't fit in with the old vets, it wouldn't matter two years from now, but what would matter is that Rondo has a talented, young big by his side.

Were you this scared of adding a new piece when Ainge assembled the "Big 3"?

  23. Anonymous says:

Nope! Celtics fans need to stop acting desperate. Cousins is young, imature and inexperience. He's limited offensively and defensively.

I rather look for other big men than Cousins. He doesn't help this team at all.

  24. Shat in your mouth says:

Enough with over exagrating about this guys personality you dont know shit...and didnt jermaine go into crowd ala metta world peace...the list goes on an on basketball players are emotional n should be

  25. Fang Yuan says:

Bass, who has proven himself as a solid backup if not an undersized starter
JuJuan Johnson - a young PF with a lot of upside if he gets playing time
Avery Bradley - out of control offensively but maybe will be the next Tony Allen for Sac

Starting 5 for the Future: Stiemsma (more polished offensively than Perk, no injuries), KG or Cousins, Paul or Jeff, Ray (Moore as his backup), Rondo (with Dooling)

  26. ben says:

I'd say YES... But depends who we would be giving up. Also... with a young talent like that think we could lure in DWIGHT? Or would we need someone else?

  27. mgballer3 says:

@Fang i dont think the celtics are getting rid of Bass anytime soon. He is their most consistent and efficient big man

  28. Anonymous says:

    trade jeff green..

  29. Anonymous says:

    COUSINS FOR WILCOX IS GOOD..

  30. JR says:

Hard to take opinions too seriously from a guy named "shat in your mouth."

  31. DH says:

Where is Bocknowz or whatever that guy's name is with our daily trade suggestions?

  32. Anonymous says:

Demarcus would be great!!!! I remember how much trouble he was giving Andrew Bynum which is what we need.

I'd be down to trade Wilcox, first round pick + Avery OR sasha

  33. Shat in JRs mouth says:

Theres a difference between opinion and stating facts and I was stating facts. So eat shit jr

  34. Anonymous says:

    get him, now or never..

  35. Anonymous says:

We need to stop fucking up the team chemistry, we're good as we are now. We don't need cousins

  36. Anonymous says:

No. Way. If we have to tear apart the team for him, I'll rather Ainge go for DH12

  37. Reean says:

First of all, you guys only criticize, I think Cousins would be a uh interesting decision, but if you think he'd be the only crazy person on our team your crazy Rondo and KG are crazy in there own way. There was an interview with Rondo AND DeMarcus Cousins they were getting alog GREAT. I love Demarcus I think he can help us. You took a chance on Nate, stephon marbury, and shaq there all old Demarcus is young straigtin him out before its too late.

  38. Bohemian says:

I would try and get Cousins. We need a good young center like him.

The good thing about this is that Ainge has frequently traded with Sacramento in the recent years. Some of the trades have been quite interesting, check this out:

    February 24 2010
Traded guard Marquis Daniels and cash to the Sacramento Kings for a protected 2017 second-round pick

    February 19 2009
Traded cash to the Sacramento Kings for a protected 2014 second-round pick

    February 17 2009
Traded guard Sam Cassell and cash to the Sacramento Kings for a 2015 conditional second-round pick.

    June 23 2003
Traded the draft rights to forward Darius Songaila to the Sacramento Kings for second-round draft picks in 2003 and 2005.

There are always some "creative" moves between these two teams and it may be easy for them to have talks about Cousins (Danny seems to always trade with Sacramento, Phoenix, Cleveland...).

  39. Anonymous says:

Use cousin to give KG rest also a plus is that he isnt a rookie unlike moore or JJJ

  40. JR says:

As expected, the Kings aren't giving away Cousins. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ys-demarcus_cousins_kings_010112 And since Feces Mouth up above wanted some facts, read the article and every player, coach, and GM calls him a big asshole. It's a shame Cousins is so talented. He deserves to blow out his knees and a guy like Brandon Roy deserves to have good ones.

  41. Anonymous says:

You guys are making him look like he's a d-bag on the court all the time. Trust me he is NOT like that, he is immature & throws temper tantrums but if you guys remember we had this guy who wore 43 who was a turnover prone, offensive fouling, no offense giving, mean & ALWAYS crying to refs.
DeMarcus is ONLY 21, he's a kid give him a break. Yeah, he's a professional but think of how you acted as 21 year olds.
He's a young, 6"11 265lb, beast on the low block that is a very good passer & defender, good 15ft jumper & a good rebounder.
I'd say go for it because this guy has talent to be the best center not named Dwight Howard & lets stop kidding ourselves about ruining chemistry, our championship window is closed. TOO much has to go right to get one more banner. Anyone nesides Big 4 is avaliable.

  42. Shat in your mouth says:

    JR hows the poop taste?

  43. nish says:

even if he comes does he really wanna come of the bench? It would be nice though of having cousins, rondo, bass, green after the big 3 era.

  44. mrkC says:

    Jeff Green
    Avery Bradley
    Draft pick

    for

    DeMarcus Cousins!

fair enough?? i Dont like avery bradley!

  45. Bohemian says:

    to mrkC,

Jeff Green doesn´t have a contract now, therefore he can´t be traded.

  46. For one thing, we don't have anything that Sacramento would want. Bradley, a couple of rookies, and a draft pick would not be enough to swing a deal for Cousins.
Secondly, just no. If it were the offseason, I'd say maybe, and that's a big maybe, depending on what we'd have to give up. But now? During a shortened season? Yes, I agree that the Celtics could straighten him out better than anyone, but that would take a lot of time and effort, and we can't afford to put effort into anything besides winning games.
Yes, he's talented, but he's more trouble than he's worth. Didn't we just trade away Baby for a more mature player? What makes you think Danny and Doc would want a new player with an attitude problem when we finally seem to have none on our roster?
He isn't worth it right now. A few years down the road? Maybe. But not now.

  47. Anonymous says:

it really depends on how desperate the kings are if they really want to get rid of him like they are..then at this point they would take jo and picks and cash to get rid of him. they wont want rondo cuz they already have evans..and he aint worth for allen and any of the big three at this point in his career even though he has the potential to be a superstar. no other teams are going to take this kid cuz he is a hot head and no coach but doc in my opinion can set him strait. so he can play along side the big 4 and doc and learn and become a superstar before we go in to the next era..or have rondo and hope for another miracle. this one is more realistic than going for howard. he is young and has potential. him and rondo as building blocks will hurry the rebuilding stage in a big way for next year. you will have an allstar center and point guard and are 1 great star away of being great again in the future and very young. i would do it in a heart beat. are championship window is closing nad next year it will be closed..sorry time to get young and rebuild people. do it danny. also...kevin mchale was traded to boston for nothing and became a star in boston. he has that potential so do it. he will mature in time. jus imagine. rondo at point cousins at center and jeff green and cap space to lure players and also the draft...sounds better than wat we have now heading foward.
