Report: Big man Thomas Robinson to be claimed by Maine Red Claws

The G-League Maine Red Claws may have jumped the gun on claiming big man, Thomas Robinson, but an official claim may take place today. Robinson is a 28-year-old, 6'9", 237-pound journeyman who has played for five NBA teams since being chosen with the 5th overall pick in the first round of the 2012 NBA draft.

There is no immediate indication that Robinson would take the Celtics final roster spot for the playoffs, but that may happen. He lacks an outside shot and is a poor foul shooter, but he can score in bunches down low and is a reliable rebounder. He has the physique and strength to battle in the paint, and that would fit well in limited minutes in the post-season.

He (Thomas Robinson) could be described: (by Tyler Ingle for NBADraft.net in 2012)
Strong -- though not bulky -- frame that can generate a lot of power in a hurry ... Very fluid runner ... Quick feet in the paint ... Is efficient and decisive in post-up situations, despite not being especially skilled with his back to the basket ... Aggressive mentality leads to a high number of free-throw attempts.

Thomas has a link to the Celtics via being taken in and cared for as a child by Marcus Morris' mother, Angel Morris. Robinson's latest stint was with the Chinese Basketball Association. Look for further updates on his status later today.
