Flat earth revisited- come in, Kyrie Irving
In my CelticsLife article, A closer look at Kyrie Irving's flat earth theory- September 15, 2017, it appears that I, and many of our readers, got the point. Kyrie was having fun with us. This an intelligent guy toying with us and seeing what reaction occurs. It worked. For more detail on the original podcast and interview of Irving, readers may want to take a look at my September 15 article at CelticsLife.
Kyrie Irving just admitted to me that he was trolling everyone about that "flat earth" stuff. Hear the interview tomorrow at 8AM on T&R!— Toucher and Rich (@Toucherandrich) September 25, 2017
The following quotes are via CBS Sports Pete Blackburn. The first two are Kyrie Irving's quotes, and the third is Blackburn's reaction:
"Look, look. Here it is. All I want to do is be able to have that open conversation," Irving said. "It was all an exploitation tactic. It literally spun the world — your guy's world — it spun it into a frenzy and proved exactly what I thought it would do in terms of how all this works".
"It became like, because I think different, does that knock my intellectual capacity or the fact that I can think different things than you?"
While it may not be totally clear whether Irving thinks the world is flat, what is clear is that he's not a dumb person and his social experiment received the results that he expected it would.
The image above is the logo of the Flat Earth Society. Yes, unbelievably, there is one. There you have it. Blackburn is right. Kyrie is very bright. What I see right now is that some members of the press may be no match for him. Many will get to really like him for what he brings to Boston and his interaction with them. Intelligent, eloquent and articulate. Did I mention playful? And damn it, can he play basketball. Flat earth to Kyrie- over and out.
