Report: The Lakers may pass on Lonzo Ball at #2

Even after everything fell perfectly into place for the Big Baller Brand at the draft lottery reports are starting to filter out of Los Angeles which have the Lakers possibly passing on Lonzo Ball at #2 in the upcoming NBA draft:

Somebody better check on Lavar.

It could certainly just be posturing from the Lakers to keep other teams behind them guessing and beyond that perhaps it's a way for them to attempt to keep Lavar in check with a couple of weeks before the draft, BUT if there's some truth behind this and the Lakers are considering are passing on Lonzo after all the talk from his camp about playing in LA it would be a hilarious turn of events.

Ball hasn't had a workout or meeting with the Lakers just yet, that's set for later this week, but there's been some momentum behind De'Aaron Fox as of late and with LA already having a young point guard in D'Angelo Russell on the roster how much sense does it make to take Lonzo (or even Fox) over some very intriguing options at other positions of need with Josh Jackson and Malik Monk available.

If Magic Johnson believes Lonzo is by far the best player available when the Lakers pick then I'm sure that he'll take him, regardless of the situation with Russell already on board, but if he doesn't see him as a slam dunk superstar it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he avoided the circus and looks elsewhere with that 2nd selection. Although one thing in Ball's corner is Magic did not draft Russell himself, so he'd likely be more inclined to move in his own direction and not necessarily be tied to D'Angelo as the Lakers point guard of the future. He could certainly move Russell instead.
