Knicks interested in Evan 'Mid-range' Turner, 'on a short list of gettable targets' for Phil Jackson
On Monday, Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders tweeted that the Knicks may intend to pursue free-agent Evan Turner this summer:
League rumblings: The Knicks are rumored to be interested in soon-to-be unrestricted free agent Evan Turner. The interest may be mutual.— Alex Kennedy (@AlexKennedyNBA) June 7, 2016
Tuesday, SportsNet New York's Moke Hamilton verified Kennedy's report, with a somewhat humorous (for non-Knicks fans) quote as well:
Can confirm @AlexKennedyNBA, regarding #Knicks interest in Evan Turner. Source calls Turner "on short list of gettable targets for Phil."— Moke Hamilton (@MokeHamilton) June 7, 2016
Yikes. I like Turner and all, but what does it say about the state of the Knicks if he's one of their most realistic free-agency options?
On the other hand, maybe Turner is more valuable than we think--also making the rounds on the internet at the moment, from an interview he did with Complex Sports, this spectacular Turner quote on why he's a desirable free agent:
The future is in the mid-range. The mid-range is where the money’s at, man. I think the three-point shot opens up the court and everything like that, but MJ and all those great players made all of their money out of the mid-range. So I’m not sorry for that at all. Evan M. Turner. For sure, ‘M’ stands for mid-range. Anywhere within 15 feet is cash. I’ll try to get better at threes, but that’s my game.
If you're familiar with the quote-machine that is Evan Turner, you know he's be slightly less than serious.
Turner has expressed multiple times how much he likes Boston (not to mention he's still in town long after the season is over) and has also said that there are more important things to him than money when it comes to where he wants to play next. But with the salary cap about to explode, chances are another team is going to offer Turner a much bigger contract than the Celtics will.
