Bob Cousy compares Hassan Whiteside to Bill Russell

Well, it seems like the Florida sun is starting to get to 86-year old Celtics' legend Bob Cousy.

In an article written by the Worcester Telegram and Gazette's Bill Doyle, Cousy compares Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside to none other than NBA-legend Bill Russell:

I have never said this in the 40 years since I retired. But he is the first big guy, not (Patrick) Ewing, (Hakeem) Olajuwon, Shaq (O'Neal), who reminds me defensively and on the boards of Russell. He runs the floor well, he has excellent timing, he blocks shots and keeps them in play the way Russell did.

Now don't get me wrong, Cousy has the right to his own opinion, but this is just bizarre.

The 25-year old Whiteside is having a very solid year, averaging 11.1 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game and Cousy clearly watches a ton of Heat games.

Whiteside has played in just 60 career games so putting him in the same breath as Russell is, just like my birth, a bit premature.

Don't worry Cooz, we still love you:
