Celtics will roll out point guard by committee in Rondo's absence

Head coach Brad Stevens came out in today’s media day and touched upon the outlook of the C’s for the upcoming season. When asked about who will take the starting role at point guard during Rondo’s injury rehabilitation, he said that they will most likely roll with a point-guard-by-committee with multiple guys filling the duties.

The primary ball handlers he views on the roster are Phil Pressey, Marcus Smart and Evan Turner. It sounded like he wouldn’t commit to one particular player at this time, however Pressey was the first name to come out of his mouth and seemed to focus on him. I can see Turner being a point-forward coming off the bench, doubtful as a starter though.

Coach Stevens was then asked about Smart’s role as of now and he was also non-committal in starter versus role player. He sees both strengths of playing Smart on the ball at point guard as well as a shooting guard. At point guard he’s strong in pick and roll play, and at shooting guard he moves well without the ball to get open.
