KG, Pierce and Terry introduced as Nets; Pierce: 'It's starting to sink in. I'm no longer a Boston Celtic'
Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry were just introduced as Nets. As you can imagine, it was especially weird for Pierce, who time and time again referenced his comfort level with Boston, and appeared legitimately saddened that his time with the Celtics was through.
Here are some of the highlights of the presser, transcribed through the Boston Globe's Gary Washburn and MassLive's Jay King.
Pierce: "Its tough when you've been in a situation like me for 15 years. I would have loved to end my career in Boston. But I'm excited."

"I think it's starting to sink in as we speak. I'm no longer a Boston Celtic, I'm a Brooklyn Net." #nets #celtics

Pierce said the biggest sign was when Doc Rivers left, he knew changes were coming, "It's sinking in and I'm liking what I feel right now."

KG: "It's unfortunate that we had to move on from Boston, but I think both sides are moving in different directions."
— Jay King (@ByJayKing) July 18, 2013
KG on waiving no-trade clause: "Obviously, having JET and Paul with me was (important)."

Pierce on Nets chances: "I think we're going to be right up there with the best of them."

KG looked like he was genuinely excited about the new opportunity, as he should be. He's already done this once (jump from a rebuilding team to a contender), and knows what it's like to leave a place that he loves.
Pierce on the other hand looked like he was in a bit of a fog the entire time. Sure, he's excited. After all, he know has a shot at competing for a title and he's still playing with Garnett. But damn there was some pain in his eyes. It's clear leaving Boston was something he never really saw happening, and that he was still processing the entire situation.
As for the Celtics, this officially brings some level of closure to the era. The new guys are here, the old guys are gone, and it's time to look towards the future. Not that you ever forget about the past of course, but the 2013-14 Celtics are starting to take shape, and the rebuild is on.
