Video: Marcus Smart surpasses Ray Allen on Celtics 3-point list
Marcus Smart now stands in 4th place on the Boston Celtics all-time 3-pointers made list. It should be noted that Ray Allen only played 5 seasons on the Celtics compared to who just started his 9th.
Marcus Smart's career 3-point percentage of 32% puts him just below noted gunner Antoine Walker at 33%. The other two members in the top 4, Jayson Tatum and Paul Pierce, both have much better percentages.
Due to his longevity on the Celtics, Smart should end up on several all-time lists. And due to the changing game and the preponderance of 3 points shots now taken in a game, all these 3-point records continue to be broken. This is also why you don't see players like Larry Bird and Danny Ainge atop this list anymore. Teams in the 80's and 90's didn't focus on 3-pointers as the 1st option back then.
Smart with 801 3's is now 38 behind teammate Jayson Tatum, who barring a trade or injuries, should end up the team's all-time leader in this category. Tatum (as well as Smart) will pass Antoine Walker's 937 in the next year or so, while Paul Pierce's 1823 will remain on top for several more years.
Smart will go down in Celtics history more for his defense than his shooting. Probably the most obvious thing I've ever written on here, but didn't want this post to sound anti-Marcus.
If you play enough years on a team in the modern NBA, you will end up on their All-Time 3 point record list. Expect Jaylen Brown (729) to pass Ray Allen this season as well.
