With Boston out of the title mix, a small reason to root for the Raptors
With the Boston Celtics currently having fallen out of the title mix in a most ugly way, it can be hard to stay interested in the NBA of late.
At least Boston fans have their other teams to root for, you say, with success at the highest levels coming to the region in the other major US pro sports, and time left for the rest to still find their way to winning a championship.
But if your basketball jones is too great to stay away, and you want a reason to pick a team, the booby prize of all of this is that an NBA Finals victory for the Raps would keep Boston as the sole US city in each of the four major sports to have either won (NFL; Patriots and MBL; Red Sox) or are poised to win (NHL; Bruins) a title.
Boston sports fans may have to root for the Raptors in the NBA finals to potentially keep the streak alive of no other American cities winning any major sports championships.— Mark Van Deusen (@LucidSportsFan) May 28, 2019
I suppose you could also root for a quick loss and a Kawhi Leonard exit as well, but personally, I can't root for the Golden State Warriors -- Swedish Larry Bird on their roster or no.
