Williams Watch - Robert Williams first game as a Maine Lob-Ster

Celtics rookie Rob Williams could use more floor time, and he will get it as a sometime-member of the G-League Maine Red Claws. He played his first game last night, but his crustaceans got cooked by the Westchester Knicks 95-92.

Rob's debut was noteworthy. He scored 11 points on a perfect 5-of-5 from the field, while adding 10 rebounds, two assists and three blocked shots.

If you are a Williams fan like me, take a couple of minutes to watch the video highlights below. Totally realizing it is the less-than-NBA-level G-League, his block while keeping the ball in play and gaining possession smacks slightly of what Bill Russell would do. It occurs at the 9:34 mark of the first quarter. His two assists were long-range and on the money. We even get his first Rob-Lob at the 6:15 mark of the third quarter, although it was of the layup variety - no dunk.

It is in question right now how often we will see Rob-Lob in Maine. He can use the minutes, but with Daniel Theis out for weeks, we may see him back with the Celtics with some regularity. In the meantime, it is my intent to give our readers updates on Williams' progress with the Celtics G-League affiliate. So look for the next Williams Watch coming soon.
