Joel Embiid to miss Sixers tilt with Celtics on Friday
Joel Embiid is set to miss the first two Philadelphia 76ers preseason matchups, that includes tonight's game against the Memphis Grizzlies and Friday night's matchup with the Celtics in Philly - shocker, I know:
Embiid once again did not play in full court 5-on-5. Did participate in half court 5-on-5. He will not play Wednesday or Friday. #sixers— Derek Bodner (@DerekBodnerNBA) October 3, 2017
Embiid has been present in training camp for the Sixers but he's yet to take the court in 5-on-5 full-court action. It's a shame Embiid won't be available Friday, as it would have been nice to get a glimpse of the Celtics new big guys getting some run against the very talented Philly center after the standout performances from both Aron Baynes and Daniel Theis on Monday.
Embiid is recovering from knee surgery that ended his rookie campaign back in March. Sixers coach Brett Brown has been catering his practices to try and keep the big man up to speed even though he's missed all of the full-court action so far. Via Keith Pompey of Philly.com:
“We learn from the medical people what we are able to get out of Joel Embiid,” coach Brett Brown said. “We sort of design the practice based on what the advice is from the medical people.”
The Celtics play Philly again next Monday in Boston as well, and I'd guess there's little-to-no chance that 'The Process' is going to be on the court for that either.
