Well, it appears it may have been part of a broader plan for an even more significant event. Although Danny Ainge and his team secured the services of Hayward, they remained open to further changes to the roster. Those changes came in the form of the agonizingly protracted blockbuster trade for Kyrie Irving, in which Boston sent Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, the 2019 Nets pick and a 2020 pick via Miami to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Irving and Hayward will both be revealed in a presser at the TD Garden today at 11am, alongside Ainge, head coach Brad Stevens and Celtics ownership.
