The Celtics have filled their present roster by adding former William and Mary guard, Daniel Dixon. He is a 6'6", 210-lb. guard who averaged 19.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists in his final college season. He shot 48.2% from the field and 87.0% from the charity stripe, while connecting on 37.8% from the 3-point line. Dixon went undrafted in the 2017 NBA draft.

William and Mary is not normally considered a major launchpad for future NBA players, but the Celts did draft a W&M product, Marcus Thornton, in the second round of the 2015 NBA draft. He is no longer with the Celtics.

While being interviewed by Francis Adu of SB Nation at the RBA Showcase in Basketball City in Lower Manhattan, Dixon has this to say:

I definitely went into the [showcase] trying to show I am more than just a shooter. I definitely could’ve shot better but I wanted to show I can also attack off the dribble,

During the Chicago G-League Player Invitational on August 13, 2017, an interviewer spoke with Dixon and had this to say about his final season at the University of William and Mary: (as per Vijay Vemu of SB Nation)

It was a huge leap in his game as his scoring game averaged went up 7 points from his junior year. He was a knock down shooter for the Tribe and expanded his game to even new heights in his final year of college. Despite Dixon’s strong play the Tribe struggled throughout the 2016-17 season and their season ended with a loss to UNC-Wilmington in the semi-finals of the CAA tournament.

Vemu also said this about Daniel's performance at the Invitational:

Given the limit roster spots in the NBA G-League, the pressure was on the players to show that they got and Dixon certainly showed his potential.

Daniel Dixon would appear to be a potential wing in Brad Stevens' system. He seems to have an NBA body, but he will have a lot of competition for that position. He may be destined for the NBA G-League for the near future.
