Celtics are set for London showdown with the Philadelphia 76ers

The Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers are set to square off in a regular season matchup this coming January across the pond in London, England:

Definitely a solid choice for the NBA to pick two teams with some stars on each side that have a storied history and are primed to be bitter rivals for the foreseeable future for their showcase across the sea. The Celtics and Sixers both spent the last several seasons rebuilding, albeit the C's have been able to remain competitive nearly the entire time while Philly chose to go a different route and tank for high draft picks each season.

Given that the Celtics have added some prized free agents in the past two offseason they are still a ways ahead Philly in terms of their competitive level at this juncture but the Sixers have a plethora of young talent that should have them near the top of the Eastern conference standings in due time. Of course the pick-swap that went down prior to this past NBA draft between the two teams landed Markelle Fultz in Philly and Jayson Tatum in Boston is sure to add some fuel to the fire for the Atlantic division rivals.

The game will take place in London at the 02 Arena, the 2nd largest indoor stadium in the entire UK, which also served home to some the of 2012 Summer Olympics. Here's the official press release from the Celtics:
