Guerschon Yabusele likely heading to Maine after CBA season finishes

Boston Celtics 1st round pick in the 2016 draft (16th overall) Guerschon Yabusele is likely heading to Maine to play for the Red Claws when his CBA (Chinese Basketball Association) season comes to a close. His Shanghai Sharks are currently knotted up 1-1 in the quarterfinals of the CBA playoffs and his arrival in the D-League will be pending how far his team advances.

Yabusele is averaging 21.5 points and 9.5 rebounds while shooting 54.2 percent from the field and 38.8 percent from three. He plays alongside former NBA player Jimmer Fredette on the Sharks. Danny Ainge noted last week during his weekly appearance on Toucher & Rich that we will likely get to see Guerschon get some D-League action before the season ends:

Celtics coach Brad Stevens is very excited about what he's seen from Yabusele this season and noted his versatility will be a huge asset when he makes it to the big show. Via Jay King of MassLive:

"I just think he's a guy that's capable of being versatile on offense with his ability to post, his ability to pass, his ability to play in the seams off pick-and-rolls, etc.," Celtics head coach Brad Stevens said Friday before a shootaround in Toronto. "And then defensively one of the things we really liked coming out of the draft was his feet. We thought that his ability to move laterally at that size was huge. So whether he's playing the 4, playing spot minutes at the 5, whatever the case may be, I think the more basketball the better for him right now. But certainly he's had a good year."

By all accounts it's likely that Yabusele will remain stateside next year, although he will probably start the season next year in Maine before he gets a shot at real NBA action.
