Isaiah Thomas is now first in fourth quarter scoring in the NBA
It seems we finally know why Isaiah Thomas picked the jersey number he now wears.
Thomas, who wears #4 for the Boston Celtics and is affectionately known by the moniker IT4, is your new king of the fourth. After last night's 117 - 108 win over the Washington Wizards, Isaiah passed Russell Westbrook in total points scored in the fourth quarter in the league, with 334 total points scored in that quarter for the season, including TWENTY in last night's fourth quarter.
Thomas' ability to flip the scoring switch to the "on" position when the game is on the line has been a major part of the Celts' success of late, winning eleven of their last fifteen games, eight of which were decided by less than ten points. Celtics fans should, on one hand, be voting like crazy for this guy as often as possible (use his name or Twitter handle on social media with the hashtag #NBAVote), but should also be wary that even after the addition of Al Horford, consistent scoring is coming from just one - very short - Celtic.
There's plenty of season left to burn, so an internal emergence of scoring - fourth quarter or otherwise - can still develop organically, but don't be surprised if a small move to address this relative weakness (and/or rebounding) goes down before the arrival of the trade deadline mid-February.
