Celtics waive former Boston University star John Holland, roster now at 18

The Celtics announced Wednesday that they've officially cut ties with John Holland:

Holland's deal for 2016-17 was nonguaranteed and his chances of making the crowded C's roster (which already includes 16 guaranteed contracts) were extremely slim.  The 27-year-old, who played his college ball at Boston University, is now free to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

An interesting footnote to Holland's tenure with Boston: As the above tweet alludes to, the only game he appeared in was in the postseason.  Holland logged one minute (and missed his only field goal attempt, a three-pointer) in the Celtics 89-72 Game 2 loss to the Hawks in Atlanta.

For the moment, Boston officially has 18 players on its roster.  The team will likely add two more bodies to reach the training camp max of 20 before eventually cutting down to 15 prior to Opening Night.
