Yahoo, CBS Sports video prematurely indicates Durant choosing the Celtics
When keeping it prepared goes wrong.
While everyone this morning in the basketball world reloaded their Twitter timeline awaiting Kevin Durant's decision on the Player's Tribune, Celtics fans for a brief moment believe they had landed their whale.
Tweets began to surfaces of a yahoo.com story which included a CBS Sports video indicating Durant had made his decision and he was on his way to Boston on a max deal.
WHAT THE CRAP IS THIS?!?!?! #KDtoBoston https://t.co/eo1Np8c854— Adam Kaufman (@AdamMKaufman) July 4, 2016
Fans and local media lost their minds for a moment, refreshing their timeline hoping for the likes of The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski and ESPN's Mark Stein to confirm the story. Unfortunately, the video was pre-recorded as it was believed that Yahoo made several video packages in anticipation of the KD announcement. The video was accidentally released.
Yes, there's a video indicating Durant signed with the Celtics. Guessing Yahoo just made a video for all teams and accidentally released one— Jay King (@ByJayKing) July 4, 2016
So...a mistake post? STOP TOYING WITH MY EMOTIONS!!!!! https://t.co/afeMWs4sCZ— Trenni Kusnierek (@trenni) July 4, 2016
Moments later, Kevin Durant announced he'd be joining the Golden State Warriors.
And by the way, the link now redirects to the Yahoo home page.
