The Celtics were in EXACTLY the same position a month ago (hopefully things go better this time around)

Tonight, January 29, the 26-21 Celtics host a 20-24 Magic team that has lost seven straight games.  If they win, the C's will move into a tie with the Hawks (27-21) for fourth place in the East, just half a game back of the No. 3 Bulls (26-19).

Boston's current four-game winning streak is tied for its longest of 2015-16.  Five games over .500 also ties the club's high-water mark this year (as well as at any point during Brad Stevens' tenure).  The Celtics should knock off Orlando tonight and set new season bests for both.

Hopefully they'll be able to extend each mark even further when they visit the Magic in the second half of a weekend home-and-home on Sunday.  Then Boston plays at New York and vs. the Pistons--two more very winnable contests.

Things are looking really good right now.

But be careful C's fans, because your team was in exactly the same position a month ago.  I mean EXACTLY.  This is like Twilight Zone type of stuff here.  Compare everything in bold above to everything in bold below:

On December 29, the Celtics were 18-13, winners of four in a row and five games over .500 for the first time under Stevens.  Boston was just half a game back of the No. 3 Pacers (18-12) and No. 4 Raptors (19-13).

Things were looking really good.

But then the C's shockingly lost to the Lakers at the TD Garden, and were only able to split a weekend home-and-home with the lowly Nets, winning the second half on the road.  After that, the Celts dropped four in a row to fall all the way back to .500 at 19-19.  Two of those four losses were at New York and vs. the Pistons.

Yikes.

Win tonight.  Break the cycle.
