Brandon Bass could get nice payday if three ball is in his repertoire

According to Jay King at at the prodding of Coach Brad Stevens Brandon Bass spent part of the summer extending his range out to the three point line:
Head coach Brad Stevens nudged Bass to add the corner 3-pointer to his game, telling the 29-year-old he would only need to push his feathery jumper back a few feet. Bass obliged and spent part of the summer shaping the new skill.

The offseason work hasn’t made a huge change yet. Through seven preseason games he has taken just two 3-pointers, making only the one against Brooklyn. An additional 3-pointer he drilled earlier in the preseason was called off because of a charging violation on Marcus Thornton, but Bass has noticeably passed up a few open looks.

"It's different for me,” he admitted. “I'm more comfortable shooting the midrange but I spent a lot of time working on the 3 this summer. So hey, I have to take some.”

If Bass can demonstrate he can consistently shoot the three ball at a 35% or higher clip this season this could be both good news for him and the Celtics.

The reason it could be good news for Boston is Bass is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and the Celtics could potentially trade him to a contender for some nice assets who is looking for a 4 who can stretch the floor.

The reason it could be good for Bass is stretch fours have been getting tremendously overpaid (see Channing Frye) recently and he could get a nice payday on what would in all likelihood be his last big contract next offseason.
