Not the Friday night most C’s fans were anticipating, this pushes back any expectations we have for this season until at least when Rondo comes back. Back to back shortened seasons for Rajon, could his stock be anymore lower right now? Any move the Celtics had in the works for their Captain are now tabled indefinitely.
The chances that Celtics now get legitimate value for him this year have got to be 0.0%, but the upside is he should only miss a few weeks of the regular season. He’s already had surgery so the worst is behind us. At least he’ll be able to condition and get ready for when he does hit the court.
This unfortunate turn of events will give Brad Stevens a good look at the other point guards on his team, most particularly Phil Pressey and Marcus Smart. Big minutes for the rookie out of the gate could prove helpful for his transition to the NBA game. Smart will take this and run, could we have a Bledsoe v. Brady situation with Smart and the injured Rondo now? Doubtful but Smart might seize this opportunity big time.
