Rajon Rondo heading to the D-League..but only for the day

Ok so right after the Celtics worked out their deal to send Jordan Crawford and MarShon Brooks to Golden State, the team also announced that Rajon Rondo has been assigned to the Maine Red Claws. But Red Claw fans, temper your excitement. It's only for this afternoon's workout. From the press release.

The Boston Celtics announced today that they have assigned guard Rajon Rondo to the Maine Red Claws of the NBA Development League.

“Rajon is progressing terrifically in his rehab and this is the next step,” said Danny Ainge, Celtics President of Basketball Operations. “This is a brief assignment so that Rajon can participate in a workout this afternoon with the Red Claws and he will be called back up to the Celtics upon the conclusion of the workout.”

So Rondo heads up to Maine for a workout (as the Celtics are not practicing today), and then heads back to the team. And while Ainge did not say it specifically, all signs point to the Celtics point guard returning Friday night against the Lakers at the Garden.

Crazy hour of Celtics news.
