Vitor Faverani is ready to contribute, but will he?

When rumors surfaced that the Celtics would be looking overseas for extra talent this year, all signs pointed to sharpshooter Luigi Datome. When Datome signed with the Pistons, Danny Ainge and the front office staff quickly signed Brazilian big man Vitor Faverani – a 6’11 big man affectionately referred to as El Hombre Indestructible.

In his own words Faverani describes his playing style simply with, “I like to fight.” While it’s not as reassuring as, “I’m good for 20 rebounds a game,” Faverani adds some much needed toughness to the 2013-14 Celtics roster. Losing Kevin Garnett- one of the fiercest defensive players in the history of the league- is going to be felt pretty hard once the regular season starts. While no one is expecting Vitor to completely fill KG's Antas, adding a 6’11 powerhouse to the mix is a step in the right direction.

As would any player with zero NBA experience, Faverani has spent this October getting his legs underneath him. His improvement has been noticeable throughout the preseason and by the time the regular season tips, expect Vitor to contribute.

Let’s hope El Hombre Indestructible can stand up to a New England winter.
