Thinking Ahead: Projected Moves for the Celtics this Off-Season

Fans are rejoicing. Boston is in the playoffs. So what? We all know that the Celts won’t win a championship this year without their superstar point guard, Rajon Rondo. After going down and tearing his ACL during the middle of the season, a lot of NBA junkies have already accepted the fact that Rajon won’t return this year and that the Celtic’s winning season will be going down the drain as well. However, Boston fought on, won a couple of games and made people believe they can go all the way again. Let me be the first one to break it, they won’t win another championship with this roster. This is not the same team five years ago. Ray Allen is gone, Pierce and Garnett are “ancient,” and Rondo is, well, prone to injuries. If Danny Ainge won’t make any changes, I am afraid the Celtics will be just another speck of sand in the French Riviera (sorry for the weird French analogy) in the upcoming seasons. Instead of worrying about their post season matchups, Boston’s staff should think about their possible moves this summer. They should this take this opportunity to rebuild and plan the franchise’s future. It’s always sad to see a great basketball dynasty fall, but if history has taught us anything, it’s bound to happen.

Right now, Boston’s most valuable asset is Kevin Garnett. There used to be talks that Atlanta and the Clips were interested in acquiring the services of the future Hall of Famer. Josh Smith (Atlanta) and DeAndre Jordan (LAC) could provide the team with the youthful athleticism that Boston desperately needs. The Celtics could also trade Paul Pierce for a younger prospect, but this scenario is highly unlikely since he is the heart and soul of the franchise. As for Rajon, who is probably spending his time in Monaco right now playing cards against French poker pro David Benyamine, they could continue to build around him or trade him for another healthier superstar. Let’s just hope that he can recover from his injury faster by doing stress-releasing activities like playing poker online. Websites like Partypoker.fr can entertain Rajon while he’s in rehabilitation, and it is a good way to keep his mind away from basketball. His team mate, Paul Pierce said that poker helped him become patient and think quicker while on the court. A hot headed player like Rondo (watch his YouTube videos) could definitely use some poker to increase his tolerance for trash talking opponents. If he could show Danny Ainge that he has worked on his attitude during his injury break, this may remove him from the trade rumors.

With or without Rondo, Celtics will surely continue their winning tradition. It’s unfortunate for the teams that will have to face Boston in the playoffs because they will push them to their limit. The Celts may be the underdogs today, but they are sure to win a championship run next season. A true champion won’t say au revior too soon.
