Jarvis was known as a defensive specialist coming out of High school, and went to Mississippi State. He tied and set several NCAA block records, and was drafted by the Heat in the 2010 NBA draft. He left for Italy however, and bounced around the world until he ended up in Sioux Falls.
In the short term, Varnado gives the Celtics an active rebounding and shot-blocking presence off the bench.

Who knows how effective a 6'9 guy will be, but Danny would not do something like this unless he was sure he could contribute. He has a 7'4 wingspan! We'll see. More on this as more comes out.
