Rondo's Definitely Not Lacking Confidence In His Offensive Game
Too late to flop homie. How did I
not sprain my own ankle here?
Dime Magazine interviewed Rajon Rondo this past weekend during his Red Bull King of the Rock 1-on-1 tournament in San Francisco. Not surprisingly the questions focused on 1-on-1 basketball. Here is the juicy part:
Dime: If the Celtics held a 1-on-1 tournament, who would win?
RR: Probably me. I mean, we play a little 1-on-1 sometimes. Paul’s pretty good – he’s probably the best 1-on-1 player we have – ’cause he can score inside and outside, and he can check guards and bigs. So I could say Paul, or I could say I’d win.
Dime: What about a 1-on-1 tournament with just NBA point guards. Who wins?
Dime: Okay, so who would you beat in the finals?
RR: Whoever gets there.
It would be fun to see Rondo and Paul Pierce go at it 1-on-1. We know what Pierce can do when he wants to score, but we've never seen Rondo in that role. Big difference offensively when you only have to focus on yourself and not making your teammates happy. In my opinion if Rondo was asked to be one of the Celtics top 2 scorers he's easily average over 20 a night. While I'm not sure I believe Rondo's boastful claims, I think people would be surprised how well he'd fare in the 1-on-1 game. Besides, there are no free throws in 1-on-1 (Sorry I had to say it before someone else did).
