Garnett's lay in lifts Celtics over 76ers
This is a game the Celtics had no business winning. The second game of a back to back, starting Semih Erden, Paul Pierce struggling, and an ailing Rondo normally means a loss. But this is why this Celtics team has a chance for greatness. There are no games off this year.
First off, great call by the Doc at the end of the game. Everyone thought that ball was going to either Ray or Paul but instead Rondo sees the mismatch down low and dishes to KG for the game winner. Brilliant execution. Speaking of late game situations, why do people still see Paul Pierce as the #1 option late in games? Pierce may be the closer per se, but Ray Allen is the finisher. All the guy does is hit big shots.
Rondo had another stellar game with 19 points and 14 assists while logging 47 minutes. Allen led all scorers with 23 points including a huge three at the end. Garnett had a solid game with 14 points and the game clincher. I'd like to see him get more shots. Pierce struggled for the third straight game and lost the battle to Iguodola down the stretch. Off the bench Glen Davis was awesome as usual with 16 points and 7 boards. Nate Robinson hit some big threes in the second quarter but didn't get much action in the second half.
This Philadelphia team isn't half bad. They are probably similar to what the Celtics would've been if they hadn't brought in Garnett and Allen three years ago. A young, up and coming team. I like Jody Meeks a lot. Not sure how he dropped so low in the draft after being so dominant in college. I know games don't necessarily translate, but this guy obviously had the ability to be an NBA player. Thaddeus Young was impressive as well with 16 points and 7 boards. All in all this 76er team could hang around and challenge for an 8 seed in the East.
On paper this isn't a big win. But to me I think it speaks volumes about the mindset of this team this year. There are no off days. We can't expect to turn it on like last year. The league is better this year and we can't take any game for granted. Looking forward to trying to extend this streak to double digits Saturday night against the Bobcats.
