Shams: Boston Celtics not a long term destination for Anthony Davis

Reportedly Davis would only be willing to wear a Celtics jersey for one season

When news came out that Anthony Davis actually had the Celtics on his list of teams he'd be willing to play for, Celtics fans rejoiced. Unfortunately that was quickly muted when Davis said all 29 teams (besides the Pelicans) are on his list. So the list he was talking about was where he'd be willing to play next season. He has no say in the matter. The Pelicans control that.

The list which actually matters is where Davis would be willing to sign long term. According to Shams, its still the Lakers, Clippers, Knicks, and Bucks, and then two additional mystery teams, neither being Boston. Now this could change between now and early July.

Yeah I know his father doesn't like the Celtics because they traded IT, but hopefully someone can explain to AD that you couldn't just give Thomas a max contract. That would have destroyed the Celtics. IT was demanding a brinks truck and simply wasn't worth that. Ainge made the wise move then moving on from IT. Trust me, if IT was willing to stay for the peanuts he's making now, he would still likely be a Celtic. Also no one put a gun to Thomas' head forcing him to play when his sister tragically passed. IT played because the distraction was the best thing for him at that time. Many of us would have done the same thing.

The narrative that the Celtics did Thomas horrible simply is not true. And what about his preferred destination of the Clippers? Didn't they make this whole production about how Blake Griffin would be a Clipper for life in order to try and re-sign him. Then he re-signed and they traded him a half year later.

Davis should be able to get over the IT nonsense. Hopefully he can then see Boston for what it is, which is one of the best places for him to meet his NBA goals.
