Celtics top-assistant coach Jay Larranaga interviews for Atlanta position

Jay Larranaga, Brad Stevens' top assistant for the Boston Celtics, has now interviewed with a third NBA team, the Atlanta Hawks, for their head-coaching position.

Jay had already interviewed with the New York Knicks and Charlotte Hornets to fill their vacant head-coaching jobs. The Atlanta position became available after the departure of Mike Budenholzer.

With the success that the Celtics have realized recently, particularly with the numerous injuries plaguing the team, it is little wonder that rival teams are seeking out Larranaga for their open positions.

Jay has been with the Celtics since 2012, most of those seasons under head coach Brad Stevens. Stevens and his staff turned what was expected to be a lengthy rebuild of the team into a rapid rise, aided of course by Danny Ainge's trades and drafts.

I doubt that Atlanta will be the last team to interview Larranaga. The demand for his services is very high and should remain so through the post-season. I would expect all interested NBA teams would want him on board well before the draft in June.
