Jaylen Brown out vs. Mavericks

Jaylen Brown will miss tonight's game against the Dallas Mavericks with an eye injury. The cause of the injury is a mystery, and all that has been disclosed is that the ailment is non-basketball related. He is considered day-to-day.

I'm wondering about the severity of the injury, because it seems like there's no middle-ground when it comes to damage to the eye. It's such a sensitive area. It's either a minor poke, where your eye waters and you need to keep it shut for a while, but ultimately, you're fine. Or, it's a pain in the ass injury where you need to wear an eye-patch and avoid sunlight.

I know from experience dude. Once in high school gym class, I got a badminton spike right to the eye. Yes, a badminton birdie, straight to the retina. The inside of my eyeball bled and I was rushed to Mass Eye and Ear. They forced me to wear this cage of an eye-patch for a few days. Then it was required that I put these drops in that made my pupils ginormous so that they'd be less sensitive to light. Everything was blurry. It was a hassle, and needless to say, I got made fun of for looking like my face was off-center.

So, I want to get a glimpse of Jaylen to see how he looks, but I'd bet that he won't be at the Garden tonight. Those rafter lights would not help his recovery. But then again, I have no idea what happened to him. He could've been punched in the eye or bitten by a dog for all I know, leaving his actual eyeball perfectly intact.

What do we think? How did Jaylen injure his eye? There are so many possibilities.

Jaylen will join Marcus Morris on the injury report tonight, leaving the Boston Celtics down two major rotation players. Marcus Smart will start in Jaylen's place, and Aron Baynes will take the starting five spot.

UPDATE: Here's what Brad Stevens had to say:

Freakin' contacts...the worst.
