Report: Celtics to meet with Al-Farouq Aminu

David Aldridge tweeted yesterday that free agent Al-Farouq Aminu is scheduled to visit with the Boston Celtics, among other teams.

In a reply to that tweet Sean Grande, the radio voice of the Celtics, said Aminu was included in Rajon Rondo trade talks between the Celtics and Mavericks last season, so there may be some history and demand for him from a Celtic perspective.

Aminu is 6'9", could guard both forward spots, and would be able to make an impact in a Brad Stevens small ball lineup. His offense is lacking, but he is a good transition player, which would fit with the offensive style of those small lineups. His three point shooting is just 29% for his career (27% for Dallas last year), and overall his offensive impact is minimal.

Interest was really generated in Aminu in the playoffs, which was after the deal with Rondo, so maybe the Celtics have become a little sweeter on his game. His numbers and minutes all went up as he replaced the injured Chandler Parsons in the Maverick's starting lineup, and put up 11.2 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game.
