It's been pretty hard to track down exactly what's been going on with Shaq for the last two months. Earlier this week there was a semi-shady report that Shaq could possibly be out for the rest of the playoffs. Doc refuted that report saying that they just don't know when he'll be ready.

Now ESPNBoston's Chris Forsberg is reporting that Shaq has traveled down to the big apple with the rest of the team. Forsberg points out that the move could be a pretty big indicator of where Shaq is at with his recovery and when he could possibly return to the court.

During Wednesday's practice at the Sports Authority Training Center in Waltham, Celtics coach Doc Rivers said that Shaq's ability to travel would suggest he might be able to play again as early as Sunday's Game 4 in New York.

"I'm not sure yet [if Shaq will travel]," Rivers said Wednesday. "It depends on what's best. If he's closer to playing -- you know how we’ve done it -- if you see him on the trip he’s really close."

Later, Rivers added: "If he goes on the trip, that means we think he'll play that Sunday."

Personally, I think the Celtics should just rest Shaq until the second round unless the New York series goes past five games. Shaq returned for a brief five and a half minutes a couple weeks ago against Detroit but it had a tragic end. He looked great but quickly injured himself again. The Celtics can't afford that to happen again because, as silly as it seems, their championship hopes rest solely on the hopes that he can stay healthy.

Say what you want about how the Celtics have looked since the trade. If they have a healthy Shaq and if Jermaine O'Neal keeps playing like he has of late, they will be a tough team to contend with. That's a big if though.

Either way, this has to be good news

I agree with the article. We shouldn't play Shaq before he finishes a practice comfortably. That 5.5 minute spell was comforting in showing that he'll adapt to the team no matter whenever he plays. Yet it wasn't comforting in showing that Shaq will play healthily whenever he plays.

No risks shall be taken. We're contenders if and only if Shaq can provide minutes.

I know that there is another way to make it happen: That JO never injures himself again AND Baby develops some size and athleticism AND Krstic improves his D AND Green has an epiphany about how to come off the bench and give a solid performance. Yet for some reason I don't see that happening.

I'm in the minority, but I think that the Celtics have enough talent to win without Shaq. However it would take a great effort from the other 4 starters and whoever plays the 5 needs to play good too. I believe in this team. I think that they don't want to have their run ended by the "new school" Miami/Chicago teams. Perkins said it when he left that the Celtics are really confident, almost arrogant as he puts it. I think that when they go into a hostile environment in Miami it's going to unify that team and it will bring out the best in them.

  5. I think given the events recently with Shaqs injury sans pre practice doc has NO INTENTION OF RISKING ANOTHER IN GAME SETBACK. I trust he has been tried and tested to standards that support his massive stature in a playoff setting.

This being granted as understood...this is VERY good news.

It looks like McGrady giving Shaq a chirporactic neck adjustment in that picture.

Shaq isn't needed to finish off NY. Don't risk a replay of his Detroit game until his interior presence is necessary.

No need to play Shaq this series. I feel good about tonight.

TD Banknorth is a better Garden than Madison Square! Go Celtics!

So glad to know our choices for men in the paint are J.O and The Big SHAMrock. Hated the acquisitions from the onset because of the age and inconsistency of their play....Banner 18??
Although JO has had inspired play so far, lets hope that The Big SHAMrock will be able to fully ROCK soon.
