Full Quote after the jump
“He’s a very good player,” D’Antoni said. “I’d like to see him play in Minnesota and see how he does. Everybody’s tied together and they have three Hall of Famers playing out there. But Rondo’s a very, very good basketball player. Really good. There’s no doubt about that.”

“You play with those guys, that’s probably what you’re going to get,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. “I don’t think he would trade it. I think he enjoys playing with them. If there is a negative side – I guess – that would be it. No matter how well you play, the question will be [that]. And someday that will be answered too. I got a feeling he’ll answer them all in the way he’s answering them now.”
The usual criticism of Rondo is that his assists are due to the fact that he's playing with the 4 hall of famers, so I wonder what D'Antonio would say about Rondo's 21 points?

  3. kunzang says:

dats D.Ants way of saying...damn i wish we had a rondo in our team!! LOL....SWEEPPPPED!!

  4. DH says:

Rondo should get D'Antoni tickets to the 2nd round of the playoffs. I wonder in Alvin Gentry used those 1st round tickets KG got for him.

wow shows how nonprofessional D'Antoni is he should have been prasing rondoo instead of insulting him. Lets see him coach the timberwolves see how bad he does

  6. Three Toe says:

If anything, that's a knock against Minnesota.

  7. tb727 says:

D'Antoni's a douchebag. He couldn't win with MVP Nash, All Stars Marion and Stoudemire and borderline All Star Joe Johnson. He's not winning with that team he has now. All he does is bitch and moan and look up at the jumbotron for replays all game long.

    Enjoy your summer loser.

Love ya Doc. Stand up for your boy.

I wonder how the knicks would do with a coach that preaches defense.

This from a coach who won 29 games without all stars and couldn't win a title with an uber awesome Nash, Marion, Johnson, Amare line-up...

I definitely agree that it was an unprofessional statement. That's usually something you hear a player say and then they end up back-tracking on it because it is insulting. That's one of the things I like about Rondo is that he has taken people's statements about him being overrated and use it as more motivation.

Tony Parker said something similar to this about a year ago and ever since then Rondo has gone out of his way to ROAST Tony Parker. Remember San Antonio earlier this season when the C's beat them at home? Rondo had like 20+ assists in that game and like. 10pts/15rebs

I agree that DAntoni should think before he speaks but we don't need to spank him over his dumb remark. He's getting spanked everyday he's coaching the Knicks because he has to deal with N.Y. fans who are SO ENTITLED. No need to spank DAntoni. He's already in hell.

  14. Beantown says:

No one on the C's is spanking him other than Rondo, Doc was just responding to a reporter's question. As fans we absolutely should spank him over that comment, not just because he's the NY coach but because this has always been the argument against Rondo.

  15. wil says:

hey beantown in that game against the spurs to i believe there no KG or shaq. Its crazy to that all the people like DAntoni talk all this smack saying that rondo is overrated, and then when the celtics are losing its usually because rondo isnt playing well...just odd. And if you look at injuries, we lose alot more games when rondo is injured and out of the lineup than anyother player. Rondo is the best passer in the nba and him not being shoot first and being able to penetrate and create offense and set the pace with his speed makes him a great player and thats what is blind for some people to see because he doesnt take 23+ Shot attemps a game. Fun fact; in highschool rondo broke records for scoring, assist and rebounds....

  16. Anonymous says:

Its ok D’Antoni, i would be embarrassed too.

  17. princey1521 says:

wouldn't that make rondo look like 10x better?

  18. GreenBlood23 says:

Rondo: "Like to see D'Antoni coach defense to a team and see how he does." =P

  19. shelbyl says:

    Doc's answer says it all.

Doc is one of the best coaches that I've ever seen in terms of press relations. Smart, smooth, sensible, commanding, straight forward.

You don't get that most of the time.

  20. Bohemian says:

I'd like to see D'Antoni coaching the Wolves...it's the same argument, right? He had great players in Phoenix and now in NY and the result has been the same: fail!!! F!

I have always despised this whining "pseudo"coach...He was so arrogant when he was with the Suns...now eat that 4-0, Mike! Go home and cry! Get a life and take coaching lessons!

  21. Tim says:

Rondo beat the Knicks in 4 and this is all mike can think of? Brilliant once again

  22. First they knock his jump shot, now that he's improved they find another way to be jealous of Rondo. But they can judge how he PLAYS when they're watching on tv during their long OFF season

  23. Danny says:

Hmmmmm....I believe Rondo puts up those numbers to set himself above the bar from other pt gaurds that play with HOFers. I seem to remember him putting up good numbers and getting those numbers by utilizing the rest of his team when the big 3 are on the bench. So, to you D'Antoni a big Bronx FAAAAAHK YOOOOOU!! and have a nice summer break...ya a hole.

I absolutely agree that as fans we should spank D'Antoni over his comment. It was out of line...... but on the upside I think it adds fuel to Rondo's fire.
