Celtics Doing the Hokey Pokey
How does that song go? You put your left foot in, you put your left foot out.... Well the Celtics are doing the Hokey Pokey but they are putting one O'Neal in and Taking one O'Neal out. After Shaquille O'Neal started the first 3 games of the season and Jermaine O'Neal was out with injuries for most of those 3 games, they are switching places. After bruising his knee in a collision with Amar'e Stoudamire on Friday, Shaq has been sitting out of practice and instead swimming laps with Perk. In yesterday's practice, Semih Erden ran with the starters while JO played with the second team, prompting suggestions that Semih may get the start if Shaq can't go on Tuesday. For today's practice, Jermaine played with the starters and is expected to get the start against the Pistons. Doc questioned whether Shaq would even make the trip but Shaq was fairly adamant that he would travel with the team, whether he played or not.
Paul Flannery reported that Semih is ready to go if he should get the call tomorrow. Good that he will be ready because Doc has said that he should see considerable playing time with Shaq expected to be out. Also, Semih is making strides with learning English as Paul reported that 90% of the interview was done in English without a translator. That's good to hear because Doc has suggested that Semih is ready skill- wise, but that the language difference might be holding him back somewhat.
Rajon Rondo Named Player of the Week
Real GM
The Boston Celtics’ Rajon Rondo and the Los Angeles Lakers’ Pau Gasol today were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Tuesday, October 26, through Sunday, October 31.Congrats Rajon! Carlos Arroyo, Ramon Sessions, Boobie Gibson, and Raymond Felton all deserve some credit as well.
Rondo helped the Celtics to a 2-1 record to start their season, including an opening-night victory over the Miami Heat. The 6-1 guard’s week was highlighted by a 24-assist performance in a win over the New York Knicks. In the team’s opening three games, Rondo dished out 50 assists, which tied John Stockton (1989-90) for the best three-game start in NBA history. Rondo averaged 10.7 points, 16.7 assists and 6.3 rebounds for the week, while also recording the first triple double of the new season against the Knicks.
Jon Jacobson
Jon's favorite player is Paul Pierce because of the work he has put in over the years, and all the ups and downs he has gone through as a member of the Celtics... However, Jon also respects and greatly misses Brian Scalabrine who became a huge part of Celtics' culture during his time in Boston. He still often sports his Scalabrine jersey, especially at the TD Garden, and hopes that Scal can someday be reunited with the Celtics, whether it be as a reserve player, coach, or any other part of the organization.
As a Boston fan in New York, Jon often has to defend his favorite teams, and when he isn't writing articles about the Celtics, he is usually in a heated argument with friends over things such as Kevin Garnett, Amare Stoudemire, or LeBron James. Jon also plays basketball in his free time, and as a senior in high school, he set the single game three point record in a local basketball league by making 9 out of 11 shots from behind the arc. He also coached a team of high school freshmen to the playoffs, and hopes that one day he can use the skills and knowledge of basketball he has acquired over the years toward whatever career he may pursue.

Jesse Dampolo's Profile

Earlier in the season Paul Pierce scored his 20,000th point. Paul has always been considered a great scorer but always seems to be left off of the all-time lists. If you're an elite scorer in the 00's you're being compared to Kobe Bryant, according to most people Paul falls drastically short in that comparison. No Paul Pierce has not had over 100 games with 40+ points, he only has 19 of them. On flip side P2 hasn't had 94 games with over 30 shots attempted, he only has 10.
In NBA history only Adrian Dantly topped the 20K milestone with less shots than Paul Pierce. Is it hard to believe? Paul has always hung right above the league average in FG% and 3PT%, while consistently being one of the best at getting himself to the line. If you can't tell that Paul is great, you better tell me what YOUR seeing.
In the early 00's the talk of the league was Shaq and Kobe, but if you look at the books you'll find that the 2nd most productive combo in those years was Pierce and Antoine. Only problem is that Antoine defensively and efficiently leaves quite a bit to be desired. By the end of Walker's career in Boston it became obvious that the student had eclipsed the teacher. Antoine was taking shots away from Pierce, and he had to go.
