According to Tim Potvak at NBA Fanhouse, two sources close to center Shaquille O'Neal say the big fella has been aggressively lobbying the Celtics for a spot on their team.
"Although O'Neal was unavailable for comment Friday, two sources close to him confirmed his continued interest in the Celtics, even though they currently have no room, or exceptions, under the salary cap to pay him beyond the NBA veteran's minimum of $1.35 million."

When Perkins returns from injury, the Celtics 5 man big man-rotation would be KG, Glen Davis, the 2 O'Neals and Kendrick.  No word on whether their jerseys would read "S. O'Neal" and "J. O'Neal" (doubtful, unfortunately).

So how do you feel?

  1. Anthony Bowie says:

    Informative

  2. Bohemian says:

If he knows he is coming here to play 15-18 minutes and wants to accept little money then I don't see why shouldn't we sign him. He would be great for us in a reduced role. Problem is the danger to add a "ego-Iverson" individual in the roster. He started for the Cavs and that's why they were worse with him: he should have been a bench player, which it's what he is at this stage of his career. He would add size and punch off our bench.

Maybe a S&T with the Cavs in which we get Anthony Parker and Shaq?? We could pay the Big guy around $4 million and receive a good shooter that would solve the rest of our problems of the off season

By the way, TB...why that pic? LMAO!! It doesn't look as a "serious" option for the Celtics?? hahaha

    Let's get the big leprechaun!

  4. Karl says:

I think every single one of the CelticsLife articles has the word corpse in it,haha. If we can get him for veterans minimum I say why not.

Haha Bohemian I know, it's a bizarre pic. And I agree 100%, it's an ego thing with him.

And yes Karl you're totally right lmao.

I'd take the Big Leprechaun for the veteran's minimum. Didn't think the Celtics could get older, but I guess they still could.

hell yeah sign shaq if he down do this 4 sure he can box people out and get rebounds that where were lacking and we no he can score 10 points a game we need a title now we dont have time on our side so lets go

Yes we need his pressents in the paint.. Mostly on the defence side of the court.. Would love to see him in a celtics jersey.. Rebounds where all begins.. Everyone knows that.. Game seven when we lost Perk..It showed.. Man what a bad break...Just hated the lakers winning on that type of luck.. Go Celtics..

  9. Jenda says:

With Shaq C's wouldn't have the time (as he's so old and likely to have a heart attack during the game) but would certainly have the lbs. on their side.
I'd hire him as a dietist for Tony Gaffney.

  10. Jenda says:

Is "dietist" the right term? Probably not. But you get my message, right?

  11. Anonymous says:

yea the C's should get Shaq as long as he agrees to come off the bench

  12. CroMag says:

The guy should have retired years ago. He knows it and so does everyone. But why the itch to join an older team?

He does not need the money. Could there be a hidden agenda to prove something before he calls it quit? Was he betrayed by LeBrat in asking him to play with the Cavs and was then left to dry and now he wants revenge? Does he want that fifth ring to even things up with Kobe? Just pure speculation, but if that is his drive to join the Cs, then by all means we should at least start entertaining a possible deal.

He can still clear the paint to help out on defense and rebounding. A one legged Bynum nearly killed us in the Finals, who are we going to used to counter him if he is fully healthy this season?

If the price is right and agrees for a backup role, DA should pull the trigger on this one.
