Celtics draft Dillon Mitchell in 2nd round of 2026 NBA Draft
The Boston Celtics used their second round selection pick #40 on 6'8" Dillon Mitchell. The St. John's senior averaged 8.3 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists per game this past season. Mitchell who was a highly sought-after five-star recruit out of Montverde Academy, played his first two seasons fo college ball for the Texas Longhorns before transferring to Cincinnati for one season and then finally transferring again to finish career under infamous former Celtics head coach Rick Pitino.
Mitchell, who will be 23 years old when the Celtics 2026-27 season tips off is viewed as an elite, high-motor athlete with a 7-foot-4 wingspan, a defensive disruptor, and a stromng finisher on the break. Dillon made the Big East All-Defensive Team this past season at St. John's.
Terrific pick by Brad Stevens.

Came into college as a McDonald's All-American at Texas, embraced being great at what he is at St. John's under Rick Pitino. Terrific athlete who CAN REALLY DEFEND. Not much of a shooter. https://t.co/Yj9TC99hbF
