Celtics training camp and preseason preview
The Celtics are set to begin training camp on September 29th. With rosters being finalized, teams are ready to begin the season. Training camp will last 7 days before the Celtics play their first preseason game on October 8th. Four preseason games will be played, and they will give us a bit of an idea of what we should expect from the Celtics roster heading into the 2026 season.
One key change to look for in the preseason is the starting lineup, particularly the center position. Will Neemias Queta or Chris Boucher be the starter? And how will the minutes be split? Another player to watch for is Anfernee Simons. Will Simons be a starter or a bench player? Simon's role as a ball handler will largely depend on this factor. If Simons were to be placed on the bench, Sam Hauser would likely be the 5th starter, which would add a new dynamic to the offense.
Other players such as Jordan Walsh, Baylor Scheierman, and Luka Garza will look to make an early case for a bigger role in the preseason. With the bench having more questions than in years past, somebody will have to step up and play a bigger role. Training camp and the preseason will be an early test to see who is able to round out the bench unit.
It is only preseason, so what happens must be taken with a grain of salt, but there are some key things to look for with the recent roster changes. On October 22nd, some of these questions will be answered with the Celtics opening up the season at home against the Philadelphia 76ers.
