Joel Embiid suspended 3 games for columnist "shove"
Joel Embiid took exception to a column written by a Philadelphia 76ers beat writer and an altercation ensued this weekend. It was first reported that Embiid punched the journalist, Marcus Hayes, but it's since been downgraded to a shove. For his action, the NBA this evening suspended the 76ers center 3 games, which he will serve once he's finally ready to make his season debut.
Connecting Embiid's conditioning and availabilty somehow to the center's family was in poor taste, but the NBA had to levy a suspension here to prevent open season on players "shoving" the media. While the Celtics have began the 2024-25 campaign with and impressive 7-1 record, the 76ers who were expected to contend with Boston are off to a dismal 1-5 start.
