Despite impressive preseason, Celtics waive Lonnie Walker IV to save on tax bill
Lonnie Walker IV did all he could do on and off the court to earn a Boston Celtics roster spot, but yesterday with a 5pm decision deadline looming the team waived the young guard.
Due to all the Celtics' high priced starters, it's all about the luxury tax when it comes to adding players, even on minimum deals. With that luxury tax bill included, Celtics ownership would have had to pay $10 million to retain Walker.Boston is waiving Lonnie Walker IV, sources confirm to ESPN.

While Walker has previously said he'd be open to playing in Maine if no other NBA team picked him up, NBA fan bases (especially the Lakers) seem to be salivating at the thought of picking up the talented young guard.
