Steve Kerr OUT as Team USA head coach

While the Celtics were well represented with three players on Team USA's 12 man Olympic squad that just brought home the gold, many fans were upset with the treatment that Boston's two star players received. Jaylen Brown was left off the team entirely and bypassed when it came time for a Kawhi Leonard replacement while Jayson Tatum was relegated to 11th man and sat out a few games entirely.

Tatum has said that this experience won't rule him out for the 2028 games taking place in America and now with the news that Steve Kerr is retiring from Team USA, Jayson's odds likely have gone up.

Spoelstra seems like the obvious choice to become the next head coach, while Lue would be the back-up choice. A lot can happen in four years, but it's important to remember that Team USA begins preparing for each Olympics years prior. The next step will be completing the roster for the 2026 World Championships.

Personally I don't think Kerr, Grant Hill, or Steve Kerr had some vendetta against the Celtics. If they did, when they replaced Leonard they certainly wouldn't have picked Derrick White. I believe they wanted a team with a manageable rotation of some scoring stars and other glue players. Typically there are some injuries that allow all the players to play, but this group stayed remarkably healthy.

If Durant had been injured for example, I think Tatum would have played heavy minutes. If Brown had been added instead of White, I think he'd have gotten less run than Tatum, which could have caused some problems since Jaylen seems to feel slighted a ton.

With the way things turned out Tatum and Brown will have chips on their shoulders going into this coming season, and that's likely a good thing since motivation is key when trying to repeat.
