Boston Celtics land top 35 pick in 2023 NBA Draft

Second round picks have been exchanged in NBA trades in an progressively extreme fashion over the past few years. Add in all the conditions on many of these traded 2nd round picks and you'd be forgiven for not knowing what 2nd rounders your favorite team has in the umpcoming drafts.

Your favorite team is they Boston Celtics and they will either be picking #33 or #35 in this June's NBA Draft. Here's the breakdown from Brian Robb:

Celtics potential draft pick scenarios for 2023

Celtics keep No. 33 pick (from HOU), send No. 35 pick to OKC to complete Mike Muscala trade

Celtics don’t get Rockets’ pick, team keeps the No. 35 pick (from POR) and sends a different second round pick (No. 48 via MIA) to OKC to complete Mike Muscala deal

The short of it is if the Houston Rockets' pick ends up higher in the lottery than San Antonio's, the Celtics get pick #33. If the Spurs land a higher spot, the Celtics get the Blazers #35 pick.

So far Brad Stevens has yet to make a selection in the draft as high as #35. He's traded the Celtics 2021, 2022, and 2023 first rounders for Al Horford, Derrick White, and Malcolm Brogdon. Stevens could very well trade this pick as well. Drafting a low price talented player would help the Celtics on the books though. Celtics draftees Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, Robert Williams, Grant Williams, and Payton Pritchard have all been a part of the team's recent successful seasons, but with the exception of Pritchard they are all on or about to be on hefty contracts.
