The Truth turns 42 today

I was born in 1986, so it was Antoine Walker and Paul Pierce that got me hooked on the Celtics in the late-90s. Pierce still holds a spot on my Mount Rushmore of Boston athletes that I’ve seen play.

Pierce was born today in 1977. He is one of the best players to ever wear a Boston Celtics jersey. Where does he rank? That’ll be for another piece, and I bet your list depends on your age.

In 15 seasons for the C’s, Pierce averaged 21.8 points per game, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.9 assists. He was an all-around player that could score with anyone. His defense also went underrated, but he did get attention in his last few Celtics seasons. He gave the team whatever it needed on a nightly basis.

The former Celtic captain was a 10-time all-star, 4-time all-NBA selection, while also earning Finals MVP honors for banner 17 to cap off the 2007-08 season.

Pierce flies under the radar when the best of his generation are brought up. People forget that he went toe-to-toe with prime-Kobe Bryant and prime-LeBron James on multiple occasions.

To celebrate The Truth’s birthday, I’m dropping a few highlights for everyone to remember why #34 will not be worn by another Celtic ever again.
