Celtics waive Marcus Georges-Hunt, but may re-sign later
The Boston Celtics have waived Marcus Georges-Hunt, but that doesn't mean his time as a Celtic is over just yet.
For now, the ex-Georgia Tech wing will remain a former Celtic while the NBA makes a decision on Jabari Bird, who is currently inactive while the league determines what course of action to take regarding his domestic assault allegations and trial.
Should the league decide his action rose to the level of voiding his contract with the team, Georges-Hunt would then be eligible to rejoin Boston for the 15th and final regular roster slot.
Sources: The Boston Celtics hope to have a decision from the NBA on the status of Jabari Bird soon. Until then, it is likely Bird will remain on the roster and will be inactive.— Keith Smith (@KeithSmithNBA) October 13, 2018
This means that Marcus Georges-Hunt may be the final camp waiver, but likely to be re-signed later.
With Boston over the tax, they won't cut Bird until they have a decision from the NBA. If the NBA decides the contract is voided, it will be wiped from the cap/tax— Keith Smith (@KeithSmithNBA) October 13, 2018
Or if Bird is unable to return (for any reason), the contract can be voided for not rendering services as agreed. https://t.co/kLPHqkNsMB
Given the Cs lead the league in Marci (a plural of Marcus coined by a reader for just this reason), I fully expect Georges-Hunt to be back in green and white once this ugly chapter in Boston roster history is resolved.
