Celtics receive additional asset in Kyrie Irving trade, the NBA 2k18 cover

The last time a Boston Celtics' player graced the cover of NBA 2k was in 2012, and that player was Larry Bird. Prior to Bird, the only other Celtics' player to appear on the cover of 2k was Kevin Garnett in 2009. Now, thanks to the recent blockbuster trade that sent Kyrie Irving to Boston, the Celtics have their third video game cover in the 2k Games' franchise with NBA 2k18. Considering the basketball influence NBA 2k has on millions of people around the world, this has to count for something, right?

Today, NBA 2k is hosting an event in New York City to kick off this year's launch campaign for the newest game in the series, set for a release date of September 17th, 2017. Now that the trade is official between Boston and the Cleveland Cavaliers, NBA 2k has already started changing everything over to Celtics' green.

Not only did NBA 2k show off the new title screen featuring Irving in green, but Kyrie also dropped a video showing his new look in the game on his Instagram as well. Judging from the caption on the post, Irving seems very excited to continue his professional basketball career in Boston.

And to the @celtics and the whole fan base. Let's get it!! @nba2k #NBA2K18 @ronnie2k

Given that this trade happened right before the biggest video game launch of the year, I'm super excited that the NBA 2k staff has already gotten the ball rolling in regards to making all the necessary changes before the release. Kyrie in the correct team uniform is one thing, but Irving as a Celtic on the game load screen is going to be absolute torture for every single Cavs' fan, and I'm perfectly fine with that.
