As expected, the Celtics pick up the options on Amir Johnson and Jonas Jerebko
No surprise here. Amir Johnson will be back with the Celtics next season:
The Boston Celtics will pick up the 2016-'17 option on forward Amir Johnson, league source tells @TheVertical.— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojVerticalNBA) July 7, 2016
Johnson, who averaged 7.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game in his first campaign in Boston, is set to make $12 million in the last year of a two-year contract he signed with the C's.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 29-year-old who is a talented rebounder making below market money in the new NBA, where average players like Timofey Mozgov are commanding $16 million a year. Johnson's contract will also be easier to move if GM Danny Ainge is finally able to find a willing trade partner of his liking.
Ainge also announced that Jonas Jerebko will sport the Celtic green for another season. Jerebko, who will make $5 million, played his best ball in the playoffs where he averaged 9.2 points per game, while grabbing 6.8 rebounds:
Ainge on Amir and Jonas: "We're excited to have them back."
